2023 UNE ALL CANDIDATES DEBATE RULES

  1. The all-candidates session for the national-elected positions will be held on Wednesday evening.  Candidates seeking the following offices are eligible to participate:
    • President
    • National Executive Vice-President
    • National Vice-President, Human Rights
    • National Vice-President for Occupational Health and Safety
    • 1st Alternate National Executive Vice-President
    • 2nd Alternate National Executive Vice-President
    • Assistant National Vice-President, Human Rights
  2. Delegates, alternates and observers may submit questions and all questions must be submitted in writing no later than 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
  3. Question boxes will be placed on the Convention floor or questions can be forwarded to candquestions@une-sen.org
  4. The all-candidates chairperson will review all questions for clarity and fairness.  The chairperson will have the discretion to combine questions that address similar subject matter.  There will be no questions from the floor.
  5. Prior to the questions portion of the session, each candidate will be afforded the opportunity to make an opening statement which will be limited to 3 minutes.
  6. Questions will be answered by the candidates in the order determined by the initial lot drawn by the chairperson except that the candidate to answer first will also be rotated in accordance with the initial lot.
  7. Answers will be limited to one minute.
  8. At the conclusion of the all-candidates session each candidate may make concluding remarks to a maximum of one minute.  In the reverse order of opening statements.
  9. In order to participate in the all-candidates session, the candidate’s nomination form must be received no later than Wednesday, August 23, 2023 by 1:00 p.m.
  10. Everyone will be permitted on Convention floor to participate in the all-candidates session.
